I take great pride in my qualities as a fishing instructor. It is my intent during your fishing session to provide you with a full day of instructional fishing, covering such aspects as seasonal patterns, locating bass, forage, habitat and cover importance, tidal and current influence, required tackle, boat position, weather changes and the use of a wide variety of baits and techniques.
My sessions are flexible and versatile. Your trip can be customized to fit your needs, whether it be to just fish for numbers, pattern better quality bass, catching a trophy, fishing a jig, learning to pitch or flip. Whether your a beginner, novice, tournament angler or seasoned Pro, I have over 30 years of experience fishing the Delta and Clearlake, to which we can tailor a session to meet your needs.

2009 Fall Striper Run, Short Day Special
Starting on October 1, 2009, Cooch's Fishing will be offering a 4 hour morning Session Striper trips. Get plugged into to fast and furious Striper fishing here on the Delta. These trips will vary from day to day depending on the schools of fish we're on. Typically there is an excellent topwater bite that is running from Sun up to about 10:00am.These trips will begin some time in mid September each year as the stripers begin to show in the middle and West Delta.
Stripers are an amazing fish caught here at this time of year on the River. They move around a lot. I will take the time to explain why they are where they are, their migration routes, feeding patterns and help you to maximize your time chasing them here so as to be succesful on a regular basis. As they begin to really move into the system later in the month, I will also be offering evening trips.

Requirements - What to bring
1. Your rods & reels. I can provide these if needed. I like to help guys out and evaluate their equipment for the task at hand. I also believe you need to feel comfortable with using your own equipment while on the water with me. I do suggest to bring an extra reel spooled with 16# test in the event we need an extra in case of equiptment failure.
2. Food & Snacks. We can eat on the water if you so choose. I will provide the beverages. I do carry a limited amount of food nourishments and do recommend that my clients bring anything they feel they need. My boat has a large cooler.
3. Sunglasses, hat, sunscreen, warm gloves & clothes as needed and a camera. Many clients also bring maps and note books.
4. I can provide all of the baits for the day. I do recommend ya travel as light as possible. I also recommend that ya bring a limited supply of your favorite tackle. This is further discussed in detail prior to the trip.
5. Current California Fishing License, Delta stamp is no longer available or required. You can now purchase your California license online at https://www.calicensetofish.com/ . No license, I can't take ya out.
6. You may bring your own life vest, I always have spares.
Booking Your Session
My sessions run 7 days a week pending availability. Cooch's Fishing is now booking full time and I am available 7 days a week. For multiple day trips, you should attempt to book with at least 3 weeks notice prior to the trip. The earlier you book, the better chances you have of getting a session during the time of year and days of your choice. I do have days available on short notice, don't hesitate to call me at any time. In the event that I am unable to book your date, I do work with a number of associates, that I feel are fully capable of meeting your needs.
All trips on the Delta depart right from my dock here on Sandmound Slough. We go fishing, rain or shine. Fishing on this River is considerabley better when the weather is ugly. I can show you the ins and outs on how to have productive and safe days on the water here when it's bad. In the advent of severe, adverse weather conditions, we'll decide the night before or here at the house if we should go out or not. Our safety will always be my first consideration.
At this time, I do not charge a deposit, but do require a phone number to secure your session date. I only ask that if ya book a trip, that you keep it or give me no less than 24 hour notice. In twelve plus years, I've had NO no-shows. First no-show and the deposit system will kick in with your name attached. [grins] 20% deposits are required when booking accomodations at the Cooch's Fishing Lodge in Oakley. Please feel free to inquire about this new option being offered to anglers fishing the Delta from out of town.
